“Comes back to memory”
Rayaad is from را یاد — rā yād, the thing that comes back to you. It is a spaced-repetition app for vocabulary, built for people who already know which words they want and would rather not be handed a curriculum.
One job
Bring a word back on the day you were about to forget it. Everything else in the product exists to make that happen more often, and anything that does not is not in it.
No favourite language
There is no built-in list of supported languages and no default. A language pair is two BCP-47 tags you choose, and the product is written so that no human language is named anywhere in it — a rule the build enforces rather than remembers.
Small on purpose
One person builds it. That is why the answer to “can it also do…” is usually no, and why the parts that are there are meant to be finished rather than numerous.

Four things that are enforced, not stated
Every product page says it respects your data. These are the four that are checked by something other than good intentions.
The free floor cannot be paywalled
Review, sync, every surface, the extension, listen mode, stats, import, export and deletion are marked in the entitlement layer as incapable of requiring a paid plan. The configuration API refuses the change — whoever makes it, however they authenticate.
Nothing is added without you
No card, no deck and no suggestion is ever written into your account automatically. Everything a model produces is a draft you read first, and there is no setting that turns that off.
Export is unconditional
One file with your profile, every pair, deck and card, your complete review history and everything else the account holds — on any plan, in any billing state, without asking anyone.
Deletion means deletion
You can end your account yourself. Your sign-in, your content and your history go, and the review log — which is append-only everywhere else in the system — is removed with it, because a promise to erase an account cannot carve out that account's history.

Because the two ends of the market both work and neither is what a lot of people want. At one end are the course apps: they decide what you learn, which is exactly right if you do not yet know, and exactly wrong once you do. At the other are the configurable review tools: enormously capable, and they hand you a scheduling settings screen before you have made a single card.
Rayaad is the middle: you bring the words, it brings the scheduling, and neither of you has to negotiate. There is one algorithm, already tuned, with two answers and nothing to optimise — and a free tier that keeps the whole loop rather than holding a piece of it back.
