Audio flashcards
Audio flashcards you can review hands-free
Hear every word in the language it belongs to. Then put your phone in your pocket: Listen mode plays the words you have due — the word, a pause to remember it, then the meaning.
Pronunciation
Every card can speak
A word you have only read is a word you will miss when someone says it. Rayaad speaks both sides of a card, each in its own language.
- The right voice. Chosen from your language pair, never guessed from the letters.
- When you want it. Tap the speaker, or have each card speak as it appears.
- Always ready. A clip you have heard plays again instantly, even offline.
Listen mode
Review without looking at the screen
Listen mode builds a session from the words you have due and reads them to you, with headphone and lock-screen controls.
You hear the word
In the language you are learning, from the deck you choose or everything due.
You get a moment to recall it
A pause long enough to bring the meaning back yourself before you hear it.
Then the meaning
Missed it? One tap marks it, and that counts as a real review on your schedule.
Listen mode works in the web app today. The iPhone and Android apps, coming soon, keep playing in the background with the screen off. Where to get Rayaad
Where it fits
A commute, a walk, the washing-up, the gym. The reviews people keep doing are the ones that fit inside something they were doing anyway — and every word you mark here moves on your schedule exactly as a swipe would.
What to expect from the voices
The audio is synthesised, not recorded by native speakers. It is very good on everyday words and less sure of rare words and names. New clips have a daily allowance (20on Free); replays and ready-made decks are always free.
Audio questions
Which languages can Rayaad speak?
Each side of a card is spoken in the language of that side of your pair, so coverage follows the speech service rather than a list Rayaad keeps. A language without its own voice falls back to a default voice. Rayaad never guesses a language from the letters.
Does audio work offline?
A clip you have played before does — it is kept on your device. A word that has never been spoken needs a connection the first time, because that is when its clip is made.
Why is there a daily limit on new audio?
Making a new clip costs money, so new clips have a daily allowance: 20 a day on Free and 300 a day on Pro. Replaying a clip that already exists is free on every plan, and so is audio on ready-made decks.
What happens if I edit a word after hearing it?
You get new audio. A clip belongs to the exact text, language and voice, so a changed word never plays its old pronunciation.
Can Rayaad check my pronunciation?
No. Rayaad helps you hear words; it does not listen to you or score your speaking, and it never asks for your microphone.
